Lemington Riverside Primary School

Personal Development

At Lemington Riverside, personal development is at the heart of everything we do. We want every child to leave our school as a confident, resilient, and ambitious young person, ready to flourish in the next stage of their education and in life.

We provide a wide range of opportunities that help children grow as individuals and as members of their community. Through our curriculum and enrichment programme, children learn how to:

  • Develop spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally (SMSC).

  • Show respect, kindness, and empathy towards others, embracing diversity and difference.

  • Understand the importance of values such as democracy, fairness, equality, and responsibility.

  • Keep themselves safe and healthy—physically, emotionally, and online.

  • Begin to think about their futures, exploring different careers and the skills they will need.

  • Build confidence, resilience, and pride by taking on new challenges.

Our PSHCE and RSE curriculum supports children in learning how to make safe, respectful, and positive choices in all aspects of life. Our Lemington Values—ambition, resilience, collaboration, discipline, global citizenship, and pride in our community—are central to this, guiding the way our children live and learn.

The Lemington Riverside Experience makes sure that every child has access to exceptional opportunities that broaden horizons and inspire ambition. These include:

  • Cultural opportunities such as theatre visits, music and art projects, and performances at prestigious venues.

  • Adventure and outdoor learning, from residential trips and sailing on the Tyne to exploring our local heritage sites.

  • STEM and careers inspiration, with coding and engineering projects, science experiments in real laboratories, and visits to workplaces.

  • Global and community perspectives, celebrating diversity and learning about the wider world as well as our own local area.

By the time they leave Lemington Riverside, children have not only achieved well academically but have also developed the character, confidence, and life skills they need to make a positive difference in their own lives and in the world around them.
