History
At Lemington Riverside Primary School, our history curriculum is designed to bring the past to life, spark curiosity, and help children make sense of how people and events have shaped the world we live in today. From exploring our own local history to studying ancient civilizations and world conflicts, pupils learn to ask thoughtful questions, weigh up evidence, and understand how different perspectives influence our view of the past.
Through engaging topics, artefacts, and hands-on enquiry, children develop key historical skills:
-
Building a clear sense of chronology—understanding when and how events happened.
-
Exploring causes and consequences of key events, and how they shaped people’s lives.
-
Investigating evidence from a variety of sources, and considering how interpretations can differ.
-
Recognising patterns of change and continuity across time, and why some people or events are considered significant.
Our Lemington Values are at the heart of our approach:
-
We are Lemington – celebrating our local heritage and understanding how our community has changed.
-
We are ambitious – tackling complex historical questions and refining our thinking.
-
We are global – exploring diverse cultures and world history to broaden awareness.
-
We are disciplined – carefully investigating sources and developing accuracy.
-
We are collaborative – working together to research, debate, and share ideas.
-
We are resilient – reflecting on challenging themes with empathy and perseverance.
By the time children leave Lemington Riverside, they are confident young historians who can place events in a meaningful timeline, analyse evidence critically, and share their own interpretations. They leave with a sense of identity, respect for diversity, and the curiosity to continue exploring the past.
